Interview with an Alien

#72 - Identity

Gavin Kai / Colin R. Season 1 Episode 72

This week on Interview with an Alien we ask ourselves the following questions:

  1. If you could upload your consciousness into a computer, would you still be "you"? In other words, how much of your biological self makes up for your identity?
  2. If you lost all your memories but retained your personality, would you still be the same person?
  3. If there was a technology that allowed you to experience someone else’s life for a week, would you do it?
  4. As an actor or actress, how would embodying a different person on a regular basis impact your view of your personal identity?
  5. If you could clone yourself, would the clone have the same identity as you? Why or why not?
  6. How would the discovery of past lives impact our current sense of identity?
  7. Ship of Theseus paradox: If you replace every part of a ship one by one until none of the original parts remain…will it be the same ship? And if not, at what point does it become another ship?
    • How does this paradox apply to our identity as we learn, grow & shape into better versions of ourselves? Do we become another person?
